Soupy Sales must surely hold the record for most pies in the face, it was a regular feature on all of his various series. Supporting puppet characters on his shows included - White Fang (the world's largest dog, but your never saw more than his giant paw), Black Tooth, Marilyn Monwolf, Hippy the Hippo, and Herman the Flea. "I play straight man to a pair of hands," Soupy once joked. The show had a couple of hit records, including the dance tune "The Mouse." It was on New Year's day in 1965, that Soupy asked his young audience to go to Daddy's wallet and get those "little green pieces of paper with pictures of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Lincoln, and Jefferson on them, send them to me, and I'll send you a postcard from Puerto Rico." This led to a week's suspension. Soupy now jokes that he inspired the televangelists that now use the same basic technique.

Warren Beatty played rich guy Milton Armitage who Dobie believed got all the girls because he had money. While Zelda believed she and Dobie were destined to be together, Dobie lusted after the unattainable Thalia (Tuesday Weld). The show began and ended with Dobie contemplating life under a statue of Rodin's "the Thinker."
